   Hello !

In this blog I am Going to answer some of the questions for the play ‘ Waiting for Godot’. It's a very interesting play concerned with absurdity. The play is written by Samuel Beckett. It's a very interesting play. Originally written in French with the title of  En attendant Godot.  This play is very interesting and specifically connected with our situation. Two characters Vladimir and Estragon waiting for imaginary character Godot.

Play has only two acts and six characters. Genre is an absurd drama.

Lets answer some of the questions based on this play

1. What do you think about the characters of the play?

Answer : -

1, Vladimir and Estragon :

Vladimir and Estragon both are the protagonist of this play. They represent the meaninglessness of life. Their gestures and dialogue are meaningless and unpredictable. Whatever they are doing is absurd.

Ex.   quote by Vladimir and Estragon

ESTRAGON

Let's go!

VLADIMIR

We can't.

ESTRAGON

Why not?

VLADIMIR

We're waiting for Godot.

ESTRAGON

(despairingly) Ah!

2.  Lucky and Pozzo :

Lucky and Pozzo are other important characters. In the whole play lucky spoke up only twice. Lucky is the slave of Pozzo. Pozzo wants to sell him but when he becomes blind Lucky will be the vision of him. Pozzo is the antagonist of the play.

3. The boy

Boy introduces himself as the messenger of Godot. He is the hope for Vladimir and Estragon. Boy signifies hope and meaninglessness both.

4. Godot :-

Godot is the imaginary character. In the whole play he did not appear once. Godot represents God.

2. What do you say about their activities and its significance?

Answer :-

All characters do nothing in the play. Their gestures and activities are meaningless and absurd .

For ex. Vladimir and Estragon's talk. Especially that hanging incident. Their playing with shoes and waiting for Godot represents absurdity.  Lucky is described here as a slave. Pollo is his owner. It's a totally trivial thing.

All characters doing insignificant and meaningless work. Their deeds are totally absurd.

3. Is there any similarity between the situations in the play and the lockdown period of 2020?

Answer:

Yes ,there were so many similarities among play and lockdown 2020. We all are Vladimir and Estragon and we were waiting for Godot. For us that time G9dot remain the same. Still we are in that situation, in full of absurdity.

4.  Did you feel like an existential crisis?

Answer:

Yes , I have felt an existential crisis during that time and till the date.

First we have to know what  does mean by existential crisis:-

Existential crises, also known as existential dread, are moments when individuals question whether their lives have meaning, purpose, or value, and are negatively impacted by contemplation.

In lockdown  2020 we have passed with the same situation.  We do not have vaccines. We are all in the same trouble. Life becomes meaningless. Still the corona cases increase like anything. Everyday thousands of people died. Looking at all situations we feel the existential crisis.

5. What did you do to pass time?

Answer :-

In lockdown it was very hard to pass the time. I used to watch web series, movies, TV serials, reading books and household work. In lock down I have learned cooking. The time table was distorted. It was very hard to be creative during that time. It was the longest vacation for me.

6. How was your psychological condition?

Answer :-

The psychological condition of mine was very horrible in the last phase of lockdown. Sometimes feeling meaninglessness of life. There was no hope for anything. Life was frustrated. Life was like hell because everyone was locked or quarantined. I felt that now life was over but somewhere my situation was like Vladimir and Estragon. I was waiting for Godot. It seems like hope.
